Learn about Swift, the most advanced and successful treatment for long term, stubborn verrucae.

Swift verruca treatment is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licensed for the general treatment of verrucae and warts in podiatry. This new treatment is particularly effective when used on stubborn warts and verrucae. Microwaves have been used clinically for over 30 years.

Swift uses microwave energy delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected verruca tissue. Microwaves work by generating heat in the verruca tissue, focussed under the probe, to a maximum depth of 5mm. The water molecules within the verruca will collide and generate heat. The energy and reaction cause the body’s immune system to activate and attack the verruca.

The video below gives you advice about how Swift can help you.

Is SWIFT safe?

Yes. The treatment is called ’emblation’ and has been used to treat cancer over the past 30 years.

What is treatment like?

A small probe is placed directly onto the skin. We use short bursts of treatment, usually consisting of 2 second intervals. The treatment can be uncomfortable but will instantly subside. Several treatments are usually applied to each verruca in quick succession after which you are free to leave. There is no need for dressings or any aftercare.

As Swift Verruca Treatment is considered a ‘clean treatment’, normal activity, including swimming, sports and driving, can usually be resumed immediately after treatment. There is also no need to keep the foot dry in most cases.

Contradictions & Cautions

There are a few situations where treatment may not be given, or extra consideration is needed. These include:

  • If you have any metal pins, plates or replacement joints in the foot or ankle
  • If you have a pacemaker
  • If you have neuropathy (nerve damage) in the feet
  • If the feet have very poor circulation
  • If you have poor healing
  • If you have Diabetes
  • If you are taking immune suppressing drugs
  • If you have a low pain threshold (although local analgesia can be given)
  • Young children – treatment on young children (under 10) might not be appropriate although we have treated children very successfully as young as eight.

Breastfeeding & Pregnancy

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should know that the energy from Swift is delivered entirely locally, and so carries the same risk as treatments such as electrolysis, which is considered safe. However, it is known that the immune system is naturally suppressed during pregnancy, so treatment may be theoretically less likely to be successful.
